Traditional Chinese medicine is a wide range of medicine practices with common concepts that have been developed in China for more than 5,000 years. Based on tradition, the Traditional Chinese medicine includes a variety of forms, such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, Tuina massage, Qigong exercise and dietary therapy.

In the books of Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon and the Treatise on Cold Damage, there are contexts related to the Chinese medicine. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1950s, the Chinese medicine has been modernized in order to integrate the anatomical and pathological notions with modern scientific medicine. However, there are some methods that are not supported by modern evidence-based medicine, which includes the model of the body or concept of disease.

Traditional Chinese medicine, short as TCM, concentrates on anatomical structures, as well as the identification of functional entities which regulate digestion, breathing, aging etc. It can be used in diagnosis by measuring the pulse, inspecting the tongue, skin and eyes or by analyzing the patient’s eating and sleeping habits.

TCM is something that fascinates Chinese and non-Chinese people alike. It is part of Chinas long legacy and, to many, constitutes a significant part of the country’s mystique. Along with feng shui, TCM has found popularity in Western countries, outside of Chinatowns, and has entered the public consciousness with a higher profile. Indeed, treatments such as acupuncture, one amongst the many incorporated in TCM, have found their way into the mainstream health systems in countries such as England. Here is a brief outline of some of the TCM treatments that are most popular, their intended benefits and targeted ailments, and some of the places at which they can be received in Beijing.
